The Banting Memorial High School Marauders football teams both brought home victories after a doubleheader in Alcona on Friday.
The junior team started strong against Nantyr Shores Secondary School, scoring 18 points before halftime. Thanks to some stingy defence, the Marauders cruised to an 18-0 win.
With a young team, Banting Memorial High School football co-ordinator Geoff Meadley said the game provided a good opportunity for some of the inexperienced rookies to get playing time.
"It went really well, we have nearly 50 kids and we got nearly 50 kids playing that day," he said.
The seniors' game was a much closer affair, with Nantyr Shores taking a two-touchdown lead into halftime.
"The guys came out a little flat, and they needed to get motivated," Meadley said.
This year's team is fit and athletic, and the stamina helped carry them in the second half, he said.
The Marauders offence picked up, while the defence was able to hold Nantyr Shores. The Marauders won 17-14.
The junior boys were on the field at home against Bradford District High School yesterday (Tuesday), but results were not available by press time.
The junior and senior boys have a doubleheader in Barrie against Innisdale Secondary School.
