The Banting Marauders senior boys football team started its season on the right foot with two wins in the first two weeks of the season.
The Marauders squeaked out a victory in their season opener on the road with a 16-15 win against Bear Creek Secondary School Sept. 18. Banting Marauder football coordinator Geoff Meadley said the close score made for an exciting game, and he was pleased with his team's play.
Running back Greg Beitz's offensive play was highlighted in Rogers Television's play of the week.
The Marauders were back on the gridiron last Wednesday, for their home-opener against Barrie Central Collegiate Institute. Banting's offence proved too much for Central to handle, in a 58-0 victory.
Banting is the defending Georgian Bay Secondary School Association champions, but the team looks a little different than last year's, Meadley said. Many of the school's star players, including Jordan Ross, graduated at the end of last year, while others are recovering from injuries.
Still, Meadley said the team has adapted its strategy to fit the nature of the players.
"This year we have a small team, very athletic and very quick," he said.
The Banting Marauders junior team lost their Sept. 18 season opener against Bear Creek 32-20.
The Marauders next game is Oct. 3 at Nantyr Shores Secondary School.
