Cartoonist Bob Kain is sharing his talent with aspiring artists in New Tecumseth.
Kain has owned an animation studio in Toronto for 30 years, and has worked for the Toronto Star and Toronto Sun. Although Kane retired 12 years ago, he creates monthly cartoons for Chirp, a magazine for kids, and teaches workshops. He has also animated five books for Chirp with the character he created for the magazine.
"The biggest thrill I get is when I find somebody with some natural ability and I can encourage them and show additional things to do with cartoons. In other words I can help them to grow," said Kain.
The workshop, Cartooning Basics, is open to youth ages nine to 15 years. They will learn cartooning basics such as facial expressions, drawing cartoon figures and how to draw cartoons in action.
Kain's local workshop is at the Gibson Centre, 63 Tupper St. in Alliston. It starts Oct. 1 and runs Wednesdays for eight weeks from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Cost is $160 plus GST.
Cartooning Basics is the first of a three part workshop series Kain is holding in Alliston. In March he will be back with cartooning for print, followed by basic animation in the spring.
