Loblaw is the founder of the Loblaws grocery chain. The plaque will be located at Stevenson Farms, which has been in Loblaw family since 1833 when his grandfather, William Stevenson, bought a log home on the property. Loblaw renovated the house in 1927 and the home became a seasonal retreat for him.
Today Stephen Milne, Stevenson's thrice-great grandson, runs a bed and breakfast out of the estate.
"For us it's a huge thing, this is where everything came together for him," said Milne. "It's an acknowledgement of 175 years of history of a very important member of the family."
The plaque presentation will take place Sat., Sept. 20 at 2 p.m. at Stevenson Farms, 5923 King St. N. Officials from the Ontario Heritage Trust, Simcoe County Historical Association, Stevenson Farms, Essa Historical Society, and all levels of government will be a part of the unveiling.
To get to Stevenson Farms from downtown Alliston follow Highway 89 west to the intersection with County road 15 (opposite Dairy Queen). Turn right on County Road 15 and go north 4.3 kilometres.
On the right there will be a white house with a green water tower and four large green barns. Turn right at the private gated entrance marked by the Stevenson Farms B&B sign.
