The North Dufferin Baseball league held its annual awards banquet in Creemore recently. The league, which has been going strong since 1937, honoured the best of the 2008 season in both the junior and senior leagues. Brothers Mike and Adam Wallace both won awards as members of the Bolton Brewers. Adam, left won best cather in the senior division. Mike won for best batter with a .593 average, best on base percentage, most runs scored, and was also selected the most valuable player. Playoffs begin this Saturday.

The Creemore Braves and New Lowell Knights secured a place in the senior division championship series of the North Dufferin Baseball League with the first game to be played Sept. 6.

Creemore advanced to the finals by beating the Lisle Astros in the first round in three straight games and then played the Barrie Red Sox 'A' team in the second round winning the series three games to one.

New Lowell beat the Ivy Leafs in the first round three games to one and faced the tough Bolton Brewers in the second round winning the series three games to two.

The finals are a rematch of the same teams from last year, which ended with Creemore winning the championship. However, during regular season action this year, the New Lowell team defeated Creemore in both scheduled games between with scores of 6-2 and 4-1.

Creemore finished the regular season in first place in the West Division with 18 wins and only four losses. New Lowell finished in second place, also in the West Division, with 17 wins, four losses and one tie.

The full schedule was released last week with the best of seven series being played on weekends through September. The first game is to be played on Sept. 6 at Creemore with a 4 p.m. start and the second game will be at New Lowell on Sept. 7 at 2 p.m.

The third game gets underway at 2 p.m. at the Lisle ball diamond, as the Creemore park is booked, on Sept. 13. Sept. 14 New Lowell will host the fourth game at 2 p.m. The fifth game has been set for Sept. 20 at Creemore at 2 p.m., and the sixth and seventh game are at New Lowell on Sept. 21 with start times of 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. respectively.
