Name: Wendy Switzer
Club: Beeton Lawn Bowling
Q: What led you to participate in lawn bowling?
A: I had a friend who belonged to the club and she always told me how much fun it was; a great place to meet people, lots of exercise. So I decided to give it a try.
Q: How long have you played?
A: This is my third year.
Q: What has been a highlight while playing lawn bowling?
A: I think meeting all the people in the club, they’re very friendly, and learning how to bowl.
Q: What else do you like to do during your spare time?
A: I like to garden, read and spend time with my grandchildren.
Q: What attracts you to this sport?
A: I think it’s something that everyone can do. There is a certain amount of skill involved, but with practice anyone can play the game, have fun and do well.
Q: What skills are needed for lawn bowling?
A: I think you have to be willing to learn, try new things, to be enthusiastic and be willing to practice. It’s something that people of all ages can play.
Q: Which skills are you the best at and why?
A: I’m still considered a novice, so I still have a lot to learn. I’m willing to play any position that is needed. I’m focusing on being a skip (player with the last bowl).
Q: What is your favourite restaurant?
A: Pizza Hut or Swiss Chalet. I go with my family to those places.
Q: What is your favourite movie?
A: Star Wars, the original.
Q: What is your favourite type of music?
A: I like music from the 60s; anything from Chicago, the Beach Boys or Temptations.
Q: What is the last book you read?
A: It was a professional book, since I’m a retired teacher. (It is) a book to do with teaching children who have learning disabilities.
Q: Is there anyone who has inspired you, in lawn bowling or in any other area?
A: I would say all of the club members, especially members who have been here
quite a while who are excellent bowlers.
Q: If you were stranded on a desert island, what is one item you would bring?
A: Probably a book, just something to occupy my mind.
