Firefighters Dave Burkitt, 36, Shawn Sweeney, 38 and Sweeney's father-in-law Pius Pittman, 63, were walking to home on Adeline Avenue in Tottenham between 1 a.m. and 2 a.m. when they were reportedly "swarmed" by the 15 young men who beat them so badly, they suffered from broken ribs, black eyes, and a broken nose.
Pittman was treated at hospital for a heart condition after the attack.
The fight ended when a resident who lives near the Queen Street parking lot heard the ruckus and grabbed his baseball bat before venturing over fray. At the same time, Nottawasaga OPP were arriving on the scene.
The three firefighters fought their attackers as best they could in an effort to defend themselves.
The investigation is continuing.
