An unconscious 53-year-old man was rescued from the Nottawasaga River Saturday night at about 10:30 p.m.

The man was swimming with friends off of the 13th Line of New Tecumseth, between Tottenham Road and the Adjala-New Tecumseth Townline. He was caught in a strong current, and was unable to get back to the shore.

Friends of the man called emergency services, and were eventually able to bring the man back in from the fast-moving water.

The man was transported to Stevenson Memorial Hospital in Alliston where he was revived, before being transferred to Rouge Valley hospital in Ajax.
