St. John Ambulance of New Tecumseth is present at many events in the area where large crowds of people attend and now they have a new tool to help them get to minor medical situations.
The Tottenham and District Lions Club recently donated a golf cart that will help emergency personnel navigate through a crowded venue and cruise over a grassy park area with ease.
The Lions got the idea during last year’s Bluegrass festival. Lion Olli Kauppinen was volunteering at the festival and after a conversation with Dany Vaillancourt of St. John Ambulance he realized that a small, mobile golf cart would be the ideal way to transport the crew through the park.
Taking the ambulance through a crowded festival can present a lot of challenges and the golf cart eliminates a lot of obstacles.
Kauppinen brought the idea to the Lions who thought it was a worthwhile cause and began raising funds from the community and several local businesses.
“Because they do events all around New Tecumseth, it’s easier for them to drive the cart around,” explained Kauppinen. “It’s a vital piece of equipment. Especially around places like the conservation area where there are so many vehicles and people.”
