South Simcoe residents will have a lot to choose from this year when it comes to celebrating Canada Day.
The Tottenham firefighters are holding their fireworks display at the Tottenham Conservation Area. The show starts at dark, but be there early enough to find yourself a prime seat. The firefighters will pass around a boot for collections.
Adjala-Tosorontio annual celebration kicks off with the opening ceremonies from 10 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. at the municipal building.
It will include dignitaries and special guests, a flag raising and O Canada. There will be cake and refreshments, and Canada Day music with children.
The evening activities begin at 7 p.m., and include a classic and unique vehicle display, model airplanes, displays from the Adjala-Tosorontio and Rosemont Fire Departments, an OPP command post, and a bouncy castle, face painting, and glow worms for children.
There will be live music from the 1950s and 1960s.
Hot dogs and drinks will be available.
A fireworks display will follow.
The municipal buildings are at 7855 Sideroad 30.
The Town of New Tecumseth is also holding its own celebrations from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the New Tec Rec Complex on Industrial Parkway.
The opening ceremonies begin at noon, and will include youth and senior awards, as well as firefighter service awards.
There will be music from the Simcoe County Band and other local musicians throughout the day. At 1 a.m. there will be Highland Dancing.
There will be a classic car and truck show in the parking lot.
There will be family skating from 12:30 p.m. to 1:50 p.m. There is shinny for children 12 and younger from 2 p.m. to 2:50 p.m., and for kids older than 13 from 3 p.m. to 3:50 p.m.
Plenty of events for kids are planned throughout the day, including rock climbing and a Mad Science show.

The day starts at 8 a.m. and ends with a fireworks display at dusk. There is no charge for the fireworks, but donations are being accpeted.
At 8 a.m. that morning the pancake breakfast starts and runs until 11 a.m.
At 10:30 am the New-Tec Singers will entertain crowds with songs from across Canada.
After the national anthem, the official opening will commence at about 11 a.m. There will also be games for children, a small bingo in the afternoon, a pet photo contest, and karaoke.
There will also be a number of booths and exhibits for the next generation to peruse and check out a possible career. Included is a booth from MDA Robotics, the manufacturer of the Canadian Space Arm. Mike Hiltz the Technical Program Manager for the space arm will be in attendance and will answer questions. Hiltz is from Angus and attended Our Lady of Grace School.
