After 15 years, the province of Ontario has done what the Town of New Tecumseth council refused to do. It has banned the sale and use of cosmetic pesticides. This ban includes both rural and urban use.

The New Tecumseth Environment Watch is delighted at this announcement and also at the news of the Home Depot. Home Depot will be  the first company to voluntarily pull these lawns chemicals off their shelves across Canada and go with natural alternatives for its customers.

They will also have trained associates to give customers product information and tips.

Thank you to all those people who gave so much of their time and effort over the years to spread the word to help make this happen.

Today, we can look forward to a healthier future for our families.

Hopefully, now the town’s Pesticide Promotional Committee will be disbanded.

Shauneen Mackay,
New Tecumseth
