I just started my grass cutting for the season this week and for some of seniors like me this is still a labour of love, but for others it may have now become more of a chore that they are ready to happily relinquish.
If you are one of the latter then you should be sure to attend the 54 Plus Seniors Centre’s next general meeting on Mon., May 19 at 1 p.m. Guest speaker will be Jeannine Beatty from the new independent living retirement facility called The Suites of Kingsmere being built here in Alliston.
You may be interested in learning about one alternative to retirement living that this facility will provide.
The meeting will be followed by tea, coffee and birthday cake for our May babies.
Spring is already half over now and it appears that more than just tulips and daffodils have re-appeared as many of our card players have returned also. At our last Thursday and Monday bid euchres we had 10 tables, which is the most we have had since our move to the Gibson Centre last fall. That is really great.
Results of our bid euchre on Thurs., May 1 were winners James Smith and Elva Manome. On Mon., May 5 winners were Bill Elnor and Yvette Fraser and our regular euchre on Sat., May 3 featured winners Russell Wilson, myself and Mary Mckay.
Bridge results for Fri., May 2 were Marion McFadden, Shirley Fulcher and Anita Pennings.
Tai chi is still being well attended so keep coming out to get the moves you need to keep fit. My grass cutting days will probably do the job for my keeping fit for the rest of the summer.
Don’t forget that shuffleboard is running on Wednesday mornings at 10 a.m. If you haven’t tried it yet, get on down to the lower level of the Gibson Centre and give it a go.
It is last call for our ham and scalloped potato dinner. Tickets can still be obtained at the door at 6 p.m. if you don’t feel like preparing supper on Saturday. Stay and play some cards with fellow members and regular players.
I’ll say it again. You should take in the On Screen movie series at the Gibson Centre on the first and third Tuesday of the month. They are excellent films. The next one is called Introducing the Dwights. It is a story of loss, love, suffering, survival and the power of perseverance which as seniors we should all be able to relate to.
My thought for today is to tell the people you love that you love them at every opportunity you have. You never know when you may never see them again. This Sunday would be a good day to start since it is Mother’s Day.
Until next week, keep a happy thought.
