The Banting Marauders gymnastics team has a lot to be proud about after a strong showing at OFSAA last week.

“They did really well, they made a big effort for the school, and I think that they made everyone proud,” said gymnastics coach Cathy Emerson.

Of the 16 gymnasts that made the trip to OFSAA, many came home with high-placing ribbons, and all finished in the top half of their fields, said Emerson. Three of the girls - Yana Klopotovskaya, Natalya Nicol and Melissa Conforzi - took first place in level four, an advanced level of gymnastics for OFSAA. The group faired extremely well considering there were only three of them, Emerson said. First place is determined by the overall score, taken from the top two marks of a series of events - vault, bars, beams and floor.

Nicol said she really enjoyed working in a team setting.

“I liked to compete with my team, when normally it’s individual,” she said

The girls were competing against about 30 to 40 other schools.

The Banting Marauders sports aerobic team also faired very well, coming in second place.

The tournament was held last Monday and Tuesday (April 28 and 29).
