Life can be hectic sometimes. For the 54 Plus Seniors Centre last week, it turned out to be just that.

First, our president Bill Murray had just landed from his 26-day cruise and our vice-president Ralph Layman was under the weather, so Bill Waters took the helm at our general meeting. He did a fine job on such short notice and everything sailed smoothly.

The rest of the week had some rough waves though causing changes in some regular scheduled events, but the cards were well attended and the tai chi classes with 24 members present swung into action as usual.

However, by Friday it became really hectic when it was time to set up for the craft sale. With the Music Festival running all week in the Gibson Centre, last-minute room changes and late-night setting up, the members were challenged to have everything ready for 7 a.m. Saturday.

All in all we came through with flying colours. The craft and bake sale went well and everyone seemed happy with the day’s results and will be back for our November show.

A special thanks to all who helped make it a success and also we appreciated the assistance from Holy Family School again for the loan of their tables.

So you see, when everyone pitches in, hectic or not, life goes on.

The craft vendors draw winners were Barbara Collins who won an Avon gift basket from Sheryl Bouche. I won an Usborne children’s book from Tammy Bales and Carrie Dunkley won a Pampered Chef batter bowl from Cecelia Boisclair.

I’ve been asked to remind you to continue to save your Sobeys and Zehrs tapes and bring them to our hall or call Ralph Layman at 705-434-9612. Every little bit helps.

The euchre lessons are over for now so all those who participated can now join in with the regular players on Monday evenings or Thursday afternoons. The results of bid euchre for Mon., April 24 were Mary Kimber and Lee Harper. On Mon., April 28 winners were Marilynn Cook and Gordon Logan and winners of the regular euchre on Sat., April 26 were Hans Bohrisch and Janina Stoklosa.

Bridge results for Fri., April 25 were Joan Hubbard, Ruth Dermott and Cherry Betts.

A reminder that our ham and scalloped potato dinner is on Sat., May 10 at 6 p.m. Tickets are available from Annette Simpson at 705-435-7615, at the front desk in the Gibson Centre or at any of our regular events. Please support our club by joining us for this dinner and staying after to play cards if you wish. Cost is $12.

My thought for today is how to stay young. You need to keep company with cheerful friends so why not join the 54 Plus Senior Centre like our 22 new members did in April. Call Donna Train at 705-435-9994 for more information on membership.

By the way, as members you get $5 off any entertainment at the Gibson Centre so be sure to take in the wonderful International Film Series movies that run on the first and third Tuesdays of the month at 7 p.m. The next one, A Prairie Home Companion, is on May 6. See you at the movies.

This has been named National Volunteer Week and I would like to say thanks to all the volunteers at the 54 Plus Seniors Centre for giving their time to keep this organization ongoing in our community. Thanks everyone!
