He first introduced his petition March 19 in the legislature, and he wants residents to print off a copy and spread it around to friends and family.

"We all want to see the birthing unit in Alliston re-opened as soon as possible and that is why I am urging everyone to support the effort by flooding the McGuinty government with e-mails, letters and faxes so that they know that our community is united and serious about re-opening the birthing unit," said Wilson.

He said the unit has been closed for three months now, and weather, combined with treacherous driving conditions and gridlock on Highway 400, have caused problems for pregnant moms heading to Newmarket to deliver their babies.

Wilson is also mailing out a postcard to local residents asking them to write to the Liberal government to re-open the unit.
