Original and limited edition artwork is just some of the loot up for auction at the 16th Annual Nottawasaga Foundation Golf Tournament.
A silent and live auction is being held July 18, after the golfers pack in their clubs for the day.
Over 200 items are up for auction in both silent and live events.
For the live section, auctioneer Paul Badley will have people bidding on pieces valued at $500 to $5,000. Confirmed items are three original watercolours by Alan Sakhavarz and Paul Burdette carvings.
At 6 p.m. people can start taking part in the silent auction. The items are randomly taken off the tables and given to the highest bidder throughout the night.
“Generally it’s the same as what people have seen in years past. There is a good mixture of stuff that should touch on everyone’s taste,” said Peter Biffis, Nottawasaga Foundation board member.
Auction sponsors are still being accepted. Nottawasaga Foundation event co-ordinator Don Hickson said the only qualifications are that it has to be an original or new product.
One year, they even auctioned off a live cow.
“They paraded it around the trade centre and after it was sold it off. After it was sold it took off and we had the firefighters and everybody chasing it around,” said Hickson.
The cost to attend the buffet dinner and auctions is $60.
Although the open golf tournament is full, there are still some spaces in the women’s event. The ladies golf and spa day is $125 each.
Anyone can attend the live auction, which should start after dinner at about 7:30 p.m. At the end of the night is the draw for a $1,500 travel voucher from New Tecumseth Travel. To accept the prize, the winner must be at the event still.
The 2007 tournament raised $310,000 and organizers are aiming to make at least the same, if not more, this year.
From the proceeds this year, the big winner is the Birthing Unit at Stevenson Memorial Hospital, which is getting $160,000 to bring the recently re-opened birthing unit back up to standard. The Banting Homestead in Alliston is also benefiting from the day on the greens. The foundation has committed money to the restoration efforts, but don’t know how it will be spent yet.
Throughout the year, the Nottawasaga Foundation flows the money raised to a variety of non-profit organizations in the community.
Past recipients include area fire departments, Children’s Aid Society, Community Living Association South Simcoe, Big Brothers/Big Sisters, plus many more organizations and service groups.
